The Nun of Hell

Les Méditations Postérieures

From the end of the vaulted twisted staircase that you have climbed up for twenty minutes, the sight of a spot of day light gives you an immeasurable sense of relief; a true leap of joy, a deliverance. Yet again it was just a thin white ray of light.

Her affable and pitiful smile welcoming your obvious surprise quickly changes into a mechanical and seducing face.

" My child, it seems that you have been led astray. So many shaking and frightened sheep like you have already faced this desk.

" But we regard this as misdirection. We've all been there, poor sinners that we are ... "

Confused, you attempt an explanation. You are not really responsible for what you have seen behind this door. All right, you let yourself be tempted. But after all, curiosity is not a major sin ...
However your indistinct mumbling do not win the indulgence of the nun.

You get closer and notice that it comes from the bottom of a small door. You promptly open this door.

Now you find yourself facing a nun sat behind a desk.

Redeem yourself, my child, and rise to the Light.

" No sin is big enough not to be forgiven by God, my child. Redeeming is always possible.

Then the nun takes a form from the right drawer:

" We will forget all about this regrettable accident. We know that deep inside your heart you are generous.

" Here is the way to be forgiven: a donation, such a small sacrifice in comparison with your existential wanderings: make a donation to charity, help those who work against human distress. A small cheque will clear all your gilt and secure your place in heaven.

She holds out the form to you.

" We accept cash, cheques, postal orders and credit cards. "

Heaven! This is above any hopes. You sign a cheque straight away.

All this looks too good to be true ... They are trying to fool you. Anyway, for having been in the den of the Nun of Hell you are definitely damned.
Back to Hell.
